Dr.
Margit Misangyi Watts is an associate professor as well as the
Director of two freshmen programs at the University of Hawaii.
She was a member of the ACRL ThinkTank III and was subsequently
chosen to be a member of the Best Practices Project Team. Dr.
Watts has developed learning communities and programs for first
year students for the past twelve years. During this time she
began collaborating with a librarian and has developed a model
for teaching information literacy within the context of a first
year course. Her newest publication, College: We Make the
Road By Walking, is a textbook for such a course. Additionally,
Dr. Watts heads a campus-wide initiative to mainstream distance
learning strategies, has published articles in the field, and
has written a monograph on distance education for the "New
Directions for Teaching and Learning" series from Jossey-Bass.
