Reference Coordinator West Chester University Innovator Stephen Marvin guides the process by which electronic tools are acquired and used by West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Stephen Marvin with his 2003 LearningTimes
Innovations in Information Services Award at West Chester University. Stephen chaired a committee of librarians, faculty and student representatives to come up with the requirements and needs for E Reserves. Stephen has continued applying the same process team approach toward acquiring a solution to use Virtual Reference services by studying and participating in numerous programs for the benefit of the focused community. Early innovation for this service had been written and distributed to multiple lists regarding the benefits. Early stage developments encounter multiple problems due to a lack of a team approach to all the processes involved in the function. Hence some home grown developments would not work on other sites or require significant level of effort to cater to needs. Stephen Marvin was able to bring relevant parties together to determine the needs and then follow with services available to meet those needs. As part of the process a demonstration was required to assure the service met all aspects of the required needs. His background in
business, psychology and social work brings cultural aspects to the
forefront as an essential ingredient to meet service demands. |
